English is a subject where students tend to prepare the “content” the units, the poems, the grammar rules but still lose marks because they’re unfamiliar with exactly how the paper asks for that content. These sample papers are built to close that specific gap for FBISE New Book students.

Paper Structure

Section A is compulsory and answered on the question paper itself no lead pencil, no overwriting. Sections B and C are answered on the answer sheet within the remaining time of the 3-hour paper.

What These Sample Papers Cover

The sample papers provide practice across selected reading, poetry and language topics, so students can revise unit by unit instead of jumping around the textbook.

Section A: Objective / MCQs

The MCQ portion draws from grammar (parts of speech, tenses, sentence patterns, phrases and clauses) and vocabulary (connotation, denotation, figures of speech) across all the papers, to help students practise identifying one correct answer.

Section B: Short Questions

This is the heaviest section, worth 39 marks, and it’s split into three consistent parts across every paper:

  • Q.2 – Comprehension (18 marks): An unseen passage from a relevant unit, followed by a precis-and-title question, three content questions (each offered with an OR choice), and contextual vocabulary meanings.
  • Q.3 – Poetry (9 marks): A stanza paraphrase (choice between two poems, usually “BLUE” and “Try, Try Again”) plus a poetic extract with three short questions, again offered with an alternative extract.
  • Q.4 – Grammar (12 marks): Rotating grammar tasks such as modal auxiliary verbs, active-passive voice, direct-indirect speech, and verb tense transformation.

Section C: Extensive Questions

Worth 21 marks, this section covers:

  • Q.5 – Narrative (6 marks): A short story or personal narrative in 100–125 words, chosen from three prompts.
  • Q.6 – Conjunctions (5 marks): A paragraph with blanks to be filled using a given list of conjunctions.
  • Q.7 – Essay (10 marks): A 200–250 word essay from a choice of three topics, covering themes like family, pollution, animals, and life skills.

Units Covered Across the 5 Papers

The following units are included in the practice material. Their grouping does not indicate official examination weight or predict which questions will appear:

Reading and life skills topics

  • Unit 1 – Animal Rights in Islam
  • Unit 9 – The Menace of Drug
  • Unit 12 – Life Skills

Poetry and environmental topics

  • Unit 8 – Poem: BLUE
  • Unit 10 – Earth and Environment

Additional reading and drama topics

  • Unit 11 – Adventure Sports
  • Unit 13 – The Oyster and the Pearl (Play)

Quick Revision Tools Included

Along with the five full-length papers, students also get two additional revision aids:

Unit-Wise Revision Checklist

Use the unit checklist to record your own progress. Give extra time to topics you find difficult, while revising the full prescribed syllabus.

Important Vocabulary List for Section A

A consolidated word-meaning-unit table covering terms like sentient, stewardship, cathartic, indelible, adversity, and biodiversity for practising vocabulary in context.

Why These Sample Papers Matter

English is compulsory, and it’s also one of the easier subjects to underprepare for precisely because it feels familiar. Losing marks usually isn’t about not knowing the content it’s about mistiming the precis, misreading which OR option to answer, or running out of structure halfway through the essay.

Working through five full sample papers under timed conditions builds real exam readiness: recognizing which unit a passage belongs to within the first two lines, knowing the paraphrase format cold, and having an essay outline ready before the 40 minutes even start.

Who Should Use These Sample Papers

Every Class 10 student sitting the FBISE annual exam can use these, regardless of current preparation level. Students who already know the units well can use the papers for timed mock practice. Students still building their understanding can work backward from the questions to identify exactly which units and skills need more attention. Teachers can also use these as classroom test material or structured homework.

Golden Tips for Exam Day

Section-Wise Time Strategy

SectionTimeStrategy
Section A (MCQs)20 minRead each question carefully before marking
Section B (Short Qs)90 minPrecis: 15-20 min, Poetry: 15 min, Grammar: 25 min
Section C (Extensive Qs)60 minNarrative: 15 min, Conjunctions: 5 min, Essay: 40 min
Revision10 minCheck spelling, grammar, and word counts

Preparation Tips

Attempt each paper under exam-like timing rather than reading through the model answers first. Pay close attention to the OR choices in Q.2 and Q.3, since board papers consistently offer alternatives, and knowing both options well removes hesitation on exam day. Use the vocabulary list and revision checklist alongside the textbook, and revisit any unit you do not understand.
