These papers remain useful for reference, extra practice, or for students who are still following the older syllabus rather than the updated Curriculum 2022 to 2023.

Covered Subjects Under the Old Scheme 2006

The old Practical Based Assessment covers the same four subjects from the Science group at the Class 10 level.

These old PBA papers show the previous assessment pattern, question style, and marking scheme used before the full SLO based updates were introduced.

It is worth noting that current exams follow the Curriculum 2022 to 2023, so these older papers are best used for extra practice rather than as your primary preparation source.

Old PBA Status and Pattern

The old PBA for Class 10 is based entirely on the Scheme of Studies 2006, which predates the 2022 curriculum updates.

  • Total marks for the PBA are 10.
  • The time allowed for the paper is 45 minutes.
  • The paper is divided into two sections, Section A covering experiments and observations, and Section B covering short questions.
  • PDFs of the model papers can be downloaded directly from the official FBISE website.

FBISE Class 10 Old PBA Pattern and Instructions, 2006 Scheme

The purpose of this older assessment is to measure practical skills through experiments, observations, and calculations rather than pure theory.

Format: Section A covers the main experiment and carries 6 marks, while Section B covers short questions and carries 4 marks.

Instructions: Students must answer within the spaces provided on the paper, use a black or blue pen only, and calculators are not permitted.

Subjects: This older PBA format applies only to the Science group, covering Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Computer Science.

Sample Physics Old PBA Content, 2006 Scheme

Here is a sample question in which a student investigates the time period of a simple pendulum in order to calculate the value of g, the acceleration due to gravity, using the apparatus shown in the accompanying figure.

i. The student measured the time for 10 vibrations at different lengths of thread and recorded the observations in a table. The radius of the metallic bob is given as 2.26 centimeters.

The recorded readings are shown below, and students are asked to complete the remaining columns, including the length of the simple pendulum, the mean time, the time period, and the value of g. (4 marks)

SerialLength of Thread l (cm)t1 for 10 Vibrations (s)t2 for 10 Vibrations (s)
18018.2318.22
29019.1719.15
310020.0120.11

Students calculate the length of the simple pendulum as L equals l plus r for each row, then find the mean time from t1 and t2, divide by 10 to get the time period T, and finally use the formula g equals 4 pi squared L divided by T squared to complete the table.

ii. Calculate the mean value of g. (1 mark) iii. Find the percentage error in the calculated value of g based on the table. (1 mark)

Section B continues with further short questions, such as tracing the path of a ray of light through a prism, following the same style of direct observation and calculation seen throughout the old scheme.

Preparation Tips for Old FBISE Class 10 PBA, 2006 Scheme

  • Focus on the experiments listed in the old syllabus, such as using a simple pendulum to calculate g or tracing light through a prism.
  • Practice calculations, recording observations, and drawing diagrams clearly, since these are graded closely in this format.
  • Compare this older pattern with the new SLO based PBA to understand exactly what has changed between the two schemes.
  • Use these old papers for school tests if your institution is still following the 2006 scheme rather than the updated curriculum.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which subjects are included in the old FBISE Class 10 PBA? The old Practical Based Assessment covers Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Computer Science under the Scheme of Studies 2006.

How many marks does the old Class 10 PBA carry? The paper carries a total of 10 marks and must be completed within 45 minutes, split between Section A worth 6 marks and Section B worth 4 marks.

Is the old PBA still relevant if my school follows the new curriculum? The old papers remain useful mainly for reference and extra practice, since current exams follow the Curriculum 2022 to 2023, and schools using the new curriculum should prepare primarily using the new PBA model papers instead.

What is the main difference between the old and new PBA formats? The old format carries fewer total marks, a much shorter time limit of 45 minutes, and a simpler two section structure, while the new format is SLO focused, carries higher total marks, and allows a full 2 hours for a wider range of experiment based tasks.

Conclusion

The old FBISE Class 10 PBA model papers give Matric Science group students a clear picture of how practical assessment worked under the Scheme of Studies 2006, from the shorter time limit down to the exact style of experiment based questions such as the simple pendulum and the prism experiment. Whether you are using these papers purely for extra practice or because your school still follows the older pattern, HSA Notes provides experiment wise guides and past solutions to help you prepare with confidence.
