Introduction

The Class 12 Physics syllabus is based on the latest curriculum of the National Book Foundation and follows the official examination system of the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education. This subject is one of the most important core sciences for Pre-Medical and Pre-Engineering students because it builds strong analytical thinking, numerical problem-solving ability, and conceptual

understanding of natural laws.

Physics at this level is not just about memorizing formulas; it is about understanding how and why physical phenomena occur. Students are expected to develop conceptual clarity in mechanics, waves, electricity, modern physics, and cosmology. This is why sample papers play a major role in preparation, as they train students according to the real board exam pattern.

Class 12 Physics Units

Unit 15: Gravitation

This unit explains the fundamental force of gravity and its role in the universe. It includes Newton’s law of gravitation, gravitational field strength, potential energy, escape velocity, orbital motion, and satellites. It also covers Kepler’s laws of planetary motion, which describe how planets move around the sun. Students must understand numerical problems based on gravitational force and energy concepts.

Unit 16: Statistical Mechanics and Thermodynamics

This unit deals with heat, temperature, and energy transfer. It explains the laws of thermodynamics, especially the first and second laws, entropy, and internal energy. It also includes kinetic theory of gases, which explains the behavior of gas molecules in terms of motion and energy. This unit is concept-heavy and important for long questions.

Unit 17: Simple Harmonic Motion

This unit explains oscillatory motion found in springs, pendulums, and waves. It covers amplitude, frequency, time period, and energy changes in SHM. Students learn mathematical equations of motion and real-life applications like clocks and vibrations.

Unit 18: Diffraction and Interference

This unit focuses on wave nature of light. It explains Young’s double slit experiment, constructive and destructive interference, and diffraction patterns. This unit is very important for conceptual MCQs and diagram-based questions.

Unit 19: Electric Potential and Capacitor

This unit covers electric potential, potential difference, capacitance, and capacitors in series and parallel. It also explains energy stored in capacitors and practical applications in electronic devices. Numerical questions are very common in this unit.

Unit 20: Alternating Current

This unit explains AC circuits, RMS values, impedance, reactance, and transformers. It also covers power consumption in AC circuits. This is a very important numerical-based unit.

Unit 21: Quantum Physics

This unit introduces modern physics. It explains Planck’s quantum theory, photoelectric effect, de Broglie wavelength, and wave-particle duality. This unit is highly conceptual and important for MCQs.

Unit 22: Nuclear Physics

This unit explains nuclear structure, radioactivity, alpha, beta, gamma decay, half-life, and nuclear reactions. It also covers applications of nuclear energy in medicine and power generation.

Unit 23: Cosmology

This unit explains the origin and structure of the universe. It includes Big Bang theory, expansion of the universe, galaxies, dark matter, and modern cosmological models.

Class 12 Physics Paper Pattern (Same as Biology Style)

The Physics paper pattern is exactly similar to Biology in structure. It is designed to test conceptual understanding, numerical ability, and theoretical knowledge.

Total Marks: 80

Objective Section (MCQs – 17 Marks)

This section contains 17 multiple-choice questions, each carrying 1 mark.

Key Features:

  • Questions are taken from all units
  • Focus on basic concepts, formulas, and definitions
  • Requires quick thinking and accuracy
  • Time management is very important

This section is usually the easiest but requires consistent practice of MCQs from each chapter.

Subjective Section

Short Questions (14 Questions – 42 Marks)

This section contains 14 short questions, each carrying 3 marks. Most questions are in OR format, meaning students choose one from two options.

What this section tests:

  • Basic definitions
  • Short explanations
  • Laws and principles
  • Small numerical or conceptual answers

Students must write precise answers with correct formulas and keywords. This section is very scoring if prepared properly.

Long Questions (4 Questions – 21 Marks)

This section contains 4 long questions. Each question carries 6 to 7 marks and is OR-based.

What is required:

  • Detailed explanations
  • Step-by-step derivations
  • Numerical solutions
  • Proper diagrams where needed

Long questions are the most important part of the paper for high marks. Students must practice writing structured answers.

Time Management Strategy

MCQs Section (25 Minutes)

Students are given 25 minutes for MCQs. Each question should take about 1 to 1.5 minutes.

Strategy:

  • Attempt easy MCQs first
  • Mark difficult ones and return later
  • Avoid guessing without logic

Subjective Section (2 Hours 35 Minutes)

This section requires careful time distribution.

Short Questions Strategy:

  • Each question: 4 to 5 minutes
  • Focus on formulas and key points
  • Avoid unnecessary explanation

Long Questions Strategy:

  • Each question: 12 to 15 minutes
  • Write step-by-step solution
  • Include diagrams and formulas

Final Review:

  • Last 10 minutes for checking
  • Recheck MCQs and diagrams
  • Ensure no question is left unanswered

Sample Papers

These sample papers are designed to match the actual board exam level MDCAT Preparation Note (Very Important for Pre-Medical Students)

For FSC Pre-Medical students, Physics is not only important for board exams but also for MDCAT entry tests. MDCAT focuses on conceptual MCQs and fast problem-solving ability.

MDCAT Physics Focus:

  • Concept-based MCQs
  • Formula application
  • Numerical reasoning
  • Time-based problem solving

Students must prepare Physics alongside Biology and Chemistry for better performance.

MDCAT entry test is expected around Sunday, 16 August, so students should start preparation early and not wait until board exams are over.
