Work

Definition: Transfer of energy via force causing displacement. ( W = \vec{F} \cdot \vec{d} = F d \cos \theta ).

Units: Joule (J) = 1 N·m.

Positive/Negative/Zero: Positive if ( 0^\circ \leq \theta < 90^\circ ); zero if ( \theta = 90^\circ ); negative if ( 90^\circ < \theta \leq 180^\circ ).

Graph: Area under F-d curve = work. Constant F: rectangle; variable F: integral.

Conservative & Non-Conservative Fields

Conservative: Path-independent work; closed loop zero; conserves mechanical energy. Examples: gravity, elastic, electrostatic.

Non-Conservative: Path-dependent; dissipates energy. Examples: friction, air resistance.

Kinetic Energy

Definition: Energy due to motion. ( KE = \frac{1}{2} m v^2 ).

Derivation: From ( W = F d = m a d ), using ( v_f^2 – v_i^2 = 2 a d ), yields ( W = \frac{1}{2} m v_f^2 – \frac{1}{2} m v_i^2 ).

Work-Energy Theorem

Net work = ΔKE. In resistive medium: includes non-conservative work.

Efficiency: ( \eta = \frac{E_{out}}{E_{in}} \times 100\% ). Ideal 100%; real <100% due losses.

Exercises Solved

MCQs, short/comprehensive questions, numericals, assignments in PDF.
